(April 30) Slightly less than a year after M.J. “Mac” Dube passed into eternity, the Twentynine Palms Post Office on Gorgonio Drive was renamed in his honor.
Dube, a career Marine, was with the Corps for 38 years, at one point acceding to the post of chief of staff at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base.
Upon retirement from the Marine Corps as a colonel in 1989, Dube settled in Twentynine Palms. He served on the Twentynine Palms City Council from 1994 to 2002 and twice held the position of mayor, being elevated to the post upon a vote of his fellow council members.
Congressman Paul Cook, who was himself a Marine before serving n the Yucca Valley Town Council, then in the California Assembly and now in the House of Representatives, sponsored legislation that named the post office for Dube.
